As revealed in this composite image from the lunar eclipse of 15-Apr-2014.
The moon transited from left to right, entering the umbra cone off of it's center, but still achieving totality for more than one hour.
The difference in coloration, is due to the earth's atmosphere. Before, is silver white; during, is "sunset" orange (blood moon, from light refracting back to the moon when going thru the thin atmosphere); and after, is also kind of reddish as it reaches a very low elevation (<10°) from the latitude of this shooting.
Images were acquired with a barlowed AP130GT and a canon 6D.
